Holidays should be fun, right?

The holidays are a special time, and with so many expectations, personalities and memories to deal with, they can also be a rather stressful time. This stress often presents itself in the form of depression – either during the holidays or in the days that follow, as the energy shifts.
There are a number of reasons for holiday depression. And, being aware of the pitfalls is the first step to avoiding them!
Dietary changes – There are many “excuses” to eat different, less nutritionally sound types of food during the holidays. Sweets, desserts, holiday party buffets, and the array of different types of drinks we consume during this period are certainly a stress on the body because of their increased volume, frequency, fat, protein, alcohol and/or sugar content. (Blood sugar changes definitely affect mood swings). Because of these factors, not only do you usually gain weight during this time, you also may be weakening your immune system as your body struggles to accommodate what you are giving it for fuel.

Nutritional Supplements to Support You NOW!

This advanced formula provides the natural nutrients for normal adrenal gland function, and is ideal for helping to “jumpstart” or “boost” the adrenal system during the stressful holiday season.
Especially this time of year, the foods we end up eating – sweets, pre-packaged food, meats, eggs, and dairy – lack the enzymes necessary for a healthy digestive process. This puts a tremendous stress on the body, and results in the body’s “clean-up” system – it’s pancreatic enzyme system – to become exhausted. For you this means symptoms of gas and bloating, or even flu-like symptoms, during high-stress times. Alka•Pan® can be taken to help support your exhausted system, and make you feel much more comfortable in the process.
Alka•Green®
This over-all body alkalizer is just the ticket for this holiday season. Taking Alka•Green® while eating more servings of fruits and vegetables will go a long way in balancing out your less-than-optimal seasonal choices. Alka•Green® provides the vitamins, minerals, live enzymes, alkalizing substances and amino acids found in multiple servings of vegetables.

Muscle Mass – Don’t Let It Slip Away!
Filed Under Newsletter | Leave a Comment
As you lie quietly in bed, your muscles use energy. In fact, every pound of your muscle uses from 50 to 60 calories every day. It just takes that much calorie energy for muscles to function. This calorie use has been termed “passive metabolism”.
Somewhere in their third or fourth decade, adults start to lose muscle mass at the rate of about a pound of muscle mass every year. Small wonder, then, that we find that bags of groceries or fertilizer feel heavier as the years go by. Of course, one pound per year seems hardly noticeable.
So, if you lose a pound of muscle mass a year over 10 years, does that mean that when you are 45 years old you will weigh ten pounds less than you did at 35? Probably not. Instead, we seem to gain weight instead of lose weight as time passes. In fact, most of us battle the creeping fat syndrome over the years. But, even if your weight does stay pretty much the same over ten years, the pound-a-year muscle loss means that ten of those pounds that were muscle mass are now fat. And, fat doesn’t burn calories. So now you have ten pounds less of muscle mass to burn the calories you take in. And, at the lower estimate of 50 passive-metabolism-calories per pound per day, if you are eating the same as you always have, 500 of those calories each day must be either used for exercise or they will be stored as fat.
So, get out there and save, even build, more muscle mass! There are obvious weight-control advantages and you won’t let your strength, endurance, and flexibility slip away.
