Understanding Your Potential for Health

In the scientific world, pH stands for “potential of Hydrogen.” Or, you could be really scientific about it and say that pH represents the negative logarithm of the hydrogen ion concentration. Wow! Instead, let’s just say that, in your body, pH stands for your potential for Health.
Specifically, pH is a value given to indicate the acidity or alkalinity of a substance. It’s a value – an intangible, not a thing. pH values are to acid and alkaline what temperature degrees are to heat and cold.
The pH scale of values runs from 0 to 14. At the low end, 0 indicates really strong, complete acidity. At the high end, 14 indicates really strong, complete alkalinity. In the middle, pH 7.0 indicates that the substance is neither acid nor alkaline – it’s neutral. Very few substances are completely neutral – most test out on either side of it.
All of the fluids of your body operate best at particular levels of pH ranging between slightly acid and slightly alkaline. Simple tests of your saliva and urine that you can perform yourself can give you a good idea of the pH levels of your body. If you are truly healthy, both your saliva and urine should register around pH 7.0 the first thing in the morning (as soon as you get up after at least five hours sleep). However, even though you usually feel good, if your diet consists mostly of meat, pasta, convenience foods, starches, and coffee or cola drinks, your early morning urine will probably register as low as pH 5, or possibly as high as pH 8. Here’s the deal, if you can’t sleep….you’re in trouble! Your immune response goes down the tubes, your energy level stinks, and your chances of dying increase dramatically.
“A natural state of bodily rest seen throughout the animal kingdom” is a definition of sleep. Not just for humans, sleep is a vital physiological process for all hairy creatures (mammals), birds, fish, and even bugs! Read more

Is your health a matter of luck, “good health” genes, dodging germs? Is it what a doctor does to “fix” your body after you wreck it? Or, (oh, no!) could it be up to you? Here’s a new way to look at it . . .
The 6 Essentials For Life
What you eat
What you drink
How you exercise
How you rest
What and how you breathe
What you think
These are all choices you make!
Who decides what you eat or drink? Who determines how you exercise or rest? What you breathe or think? You do.
If you make good choices, the side effects are health, happiness and success. But violating these Six Essentials causes stress, which leads to disease, pain, misery and death.
And, that’s enough to make you think about taking charge of your choices!

That cwazy wabbit wasn’t so cwazy! Carrots are great food. And, fresh carrot juice is the best way to get the benefits of this excellent, high-energy food. In this form, there is minimal fiber for the body to digest, so your body doesn’t expend extra energy to absorb the many nutrients. It’s a rich source of calcium, potassium, magnesium, beta-carotene (an excellent cancer “fighter”) and useable protein.
Fresh carrot juice helps purify the liver, promotes cell regeneration and helps alkalize your body.
And, it’s easy to make. All you need are carrots and a juicer. Buy carrots that look and smell fresh. 3-4 lbs. will yield 1 quart of juice. Peel them; chop off the ends, and slowly feed them into the grinder. Run the pulp through a second time; then, strain the juice with a fine sieve. (The excess pulp can be used in mulch or as plant food for your houseplants.) Carrot juice keeps in the refrigerator for up to 8 hours or it can be frozen if done within one hour of juicing.

by Dr. M. T. Morter, Jr.
As we stumble along this road of life, we do occasionally run into some emotional potholes. How we handle those potholes determines the ride, and as we are discovering, the ride is what really matters.Hurt feelings, resentment, anger, fear, and frustration are potholes that we create. These potholes can cause some serious chronic “injuries” that hang on for a long time and put excessive wear and tear on our bodies. They have lasting effects healthwise, and plenty of emotional stress “baggage” with them. Fortunately, there are ways we can prepare for and handle these emotional potholes that will not only leave us healthy and unscathed, but also stronger and able to experience a more meaningful journey. Basically, we will be able to enjoy life more.
How do we prepare for emotional potholes? Well, you can begin by avoiding their creation all together. Nothing is really good or bad, right or wrong, until you judge it so, and then it is merely your perception. It is easier to say, “Judge not, lest ye be judged” than it is to practice the precept. The fact is, judging – whether judging others, their actions, events, or anything else – is a process of rating according to your opinion and perception. And, really, who are we to judge? Our own perceptions even change over the course of our lifetimes – from childhood to teenage to adulthood to elderly – so, at what age do we judge rightly? Every time you judge a person or event, you create an emotional pothole. So, STOP; try to see the situation from another’s perspective, and allow for the possibility that you have misinterpreted the situation. By being more aware of your thoughts, you’ll have less emotional potholes to deal with along the way.
